2019 Review into National Road Safety Governance Arrangements

The Australian Government shares responsibility for improving road safety with multiple agencies across all levels of government in Australia. Coordination across and within the Commonwealth, state, territory and local governments will be the cornerstone of improving the governance arrangements around road safety.

On 4 October 2018, the Australian Government announced a Review of National Road Safety Governance in response to recommendation 6 of the Inquiry into the National Road Safety Strategy 2011-2020.

The Review examined whether Australia has the appropriate governance arrangements in place to deliver the commitments made by governments to mainstream road safety in line with the Safe System Approach. The Review also identified ways for the Australian Government to work in partnership with state, territory and local governments to bring down the number of road deaths and serious injuries.

On 2 August 2019 the Review of National Road Safety Governance was endorsed for publication by the Transport and Infrastructure Council.
