2019 Review into National Road Safety Governance Arrangements

The Australian Government shares responsibility for improving road safety with multiple agencies across all levels of government in Australia. Coordination across and within the Commonwealth, state, territory and local governments will be the cornerstone of improving the governance arrangements around road safety.

On 4 October 2018, the Australian Government announced a Review of National Road Safety Governance in response to recommendation 6 of the Inquiry into the National Road Safety Strategy 2011-2020.

The Review will examine whether Australia has the appropriate governance arrangements in place to deliver the commitments made by governments to mainstream road safety in line with the Safe System Approach of working towards safe roads, safe vehicles, safe people and safe speeds. The Review will also identify how the Australian Government can work in partnership with state, territory and local governments to bring down the number of road deaths and serious injuries.

The Review is being led by the Road Safety Taskforce in the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities. For further information contact roadsafetytaskforce@infrastructure.gov.au
